In this scenario, your wife would have been prioritized above the 1K. There is a separate waitlist for displaced travelers that clears prior to the normal waitlist. Within each of those lists it's prioritized by status, so a 1K passenger who was similarly experiencing IRROPS would trump your wife regardless of when they were added, but not if they were just seeking to get on an earlier flight. As it should be imho.
Thanks, these muliple lists weren't clear to me the last time I was in this situation. I still have mixed feelings about an elite trumping a non-elite in an IRROPS situation. Suppose the non-elite had attempting to stand by for several flights, i.e. waiting hours if not days. Now, an elite from another, more recent, IRROPS shows up and pushes the non-elite further down the waitlist. I wouldn't be happy if my wife was the non-elite ...
