Whoa, the TV in the room is more important to me than the bed! I'd rather have a small, uncomfortable bed than give up tv, but that's just me.

I had a similar experience when the Westin reopened after the hurricane in Cancun years ago. They changed the date of the reopening and while according to the website it had reopened weeks prior to my stay, the reality was that they were just opening the day I arrived. NOTHING was working and that included the tv. Not only was I NOT compensated, but they still charged me for the room when almost everything in the resort that had been advertised was not working. No spa, no pools, a bulldozer on the beach, and no tv. I checked out and RAN to Le Meridien Cancun.

If you can get some compensation, go for it. I requested compensation and was practically laughed at, and I still had to PAY for the room. Live and learn. I wouldn't ask for a lot, but certainly more than a few drinks.

If they can't provide the basics, I do think compensation is called for. I wouldn't be greedy but I would suggest what feels to YOU to be a fair deal. They're probably going to fix it or find you a new room after the 1 night, so be sure you talk to them before that happens. I think 1,000-2,000 points sounds reasonable. I was given 1500 at a SPG hotel just b/c some kids pulled the fire alarm & ran around making noise and knocking on doors at 3am. And I didn't even ask for that.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip!
