Actually, the update to they system that allows flights to appear in one day was just done in August. Up until then, 72 hours was the norm. So your miles could not have been posting in one day over the last six months. Things that cause miles not to post? No AA number, standby, system glitch, wrong AA number due to name mismatch (seeing a lot of this lately due to people puttin their secure flight data in the ticketing field), gremlins and simple inattention as mentioned above.
Miles most definitely HAVE been posting within a day since well before August, at least since May for me - obviously this may not have applied to every flight - but it did to all of my flights since May except two that took slightly longer which were TATL flights back to the UK, that left late one evening and posted around 36 hours later.
