Indeed the arrival lounge is landside.

If connecting at LHR you need to go through security in any event, except when arriving at LHR on a domestic (UK) flight.

If your final destination is within the UK, you need to go through UK passport control anyway. However if going landside, and if you are connecting internationally, then going t6o the lounge indeed entails unnecessarily going through passport control (in and out) and customs.

This said, if having either an EU passport, or fast track, I prefer doing that and eventually walking through the tunnel than taking the airside bus to T1/2.
