I used to wprk for AA a few years ago. Back at that time the game plan was to keep the Reno MD-82/83 series airplanes. The MD-87 and MD-90's were removed from the roster due to incompatability with the AA fleet.

Originally the Reno aircraft would remain out west, but it wouldn't suprised me if over the course of time they've been fully integrated with the rest of the fleet. Particularly since then, enough time has past for all the ex-Reno's to go thru a "heavy C maintenance" check. Along with many other things, this would involve stripping all the white paint off to do a "nose-to-tail" corrosion inspection.

As a side note (off topic).....
I bit of irony in AA's fleet planning. The Reno MD-90's were disposed of since it didn't make sense to maintain a parts inventory for a fleet of only a few planes. But the MD-90 is a lot more fuel efficient than the MD-80. AA later on inherited a decent sized (and growing) fleet of Boeing 717's from TWA. The 717 is really an MD-95 so I'm sure has a fair amount of compatibility with the MD-90.
Also....
With the 717's AA again had 2 different simarly sized aircraft types designed for the same type mission. AA decided to keep the Fokker 100 over the 717. Again due to "fleet incompatibility". Excuse me, even though the 717/MD-95 is a lot different from the MD-80. it had a lot more in common with the mainstay of the AA fleet than the Fokker did. Particularly since AA has complained about the lack of parts availability and support after the demise of the Fokker Corporation. And now the Fokker is being removed ???
