I don't see the two as mutually exclusive. They need connections on their HND-CDG flights and AF is the one that can provide it for JAL.

Anyway, I don't think AF nor BA is the right European partner for JL, there are too much backtracking involved to connect at LHR and CDR if you want to fly to other parts of Europe. Ex-LHR and ex-CDG pax probably won't connect at NRT/HND if they are flying to SE Asia
