I've hated Flash from the get go. It isn't search-engine friendly unless someone knows what they're doing, it's a memory hog on computers, and it literally, literally, serves no purpose other than to put video onto the internet. It's certainly not a usability enhancer.
Now that there are ways to put video on the internet without the use of Flash, I see no need for it, especially when the new methods of putting video out there are "one and done" meaning I create the video once and automatically it is formatted for multiple platforms.
I'm not disagreeing with any of that (OK, maybe screen brightness - Flash works and is viewable on my phone even when the screen is at its minimum brightness). My point is that there are countless websites that have used the technology. Good or bad, it's out there. It's not going away anytime soon. As an end-user, I'd rather have the choice to at least be able to use a Flash site on my phone if I want to. I'd rather have a somewhat compromised browsing experience, but still be able to browse the site I need to get to, than no browsing experience at all.
I agree that developers need to move away from Flash and that there are better options that work across all platforms that they should be doing. However, those changes aren't going to happen overnight, so why not support what's already there, as well as what's coming down the line as well?
