It's possible that the Gold desk will be willing to extend the benefits if *you* call in to make any changes, but its not an automatic waiver.
Have definitely also found that if you have booked a trip for someone else who has their own MP# and so on, and aren't at the status level that matters, they'll sometimes do what they can for you, e.g. getting them a seat booked should you be traveling together at any point on a trip and they were to be assigned at the airport, or putting them in exit rows, etc. I've also seen combining itineraries do have a similar effect.
