What you're describing is interlining bags and UA/HA can do it no problem. Bring a print-out of your HA reservation to the UA counter and they'll be able to check it all the way through. You are subject to UA's policies on fees for baggage on the outbound flight.

On the return you can do the same with HA checking through to UA. Similarly you're subject to HA's baggage policies/fees.
