Quality of C meals on LH's european flights?
As I'm usually travelling in Y on intra-european flights (the C surcharge isn't really worth it in my opinion), I don't have much experience about the meal quality on C flights. But when I recently took a C flight from DUS to VIE (on LH) and back (on OS), I was heavily disappointed by the meal offered. What they boldly advertise as "Discover flavour" (LH's slogan for intra-european meal service) has really been some kind of bad joke. Served on a throw-away plastic tray with plastic cutlery there came a variety of nearly inedible, well, "things". I needed two glasses of wine to get rid of the taste in my mouth. The first "gadget" was an assortment of two strange, obviously cheese-based spreads (they seem to have tried to recreate what bavarians call "obatzta"). Next, there was a piece of "welded fish" (the taste was ok, but it looked a bit strange) together with some completely tasteless potato salad and, for dessert, a kind of flan on a biscuit, tasting like it hat just been delivered from the chemicals factory. Why they call something like this "Discover flavour" (while I see the slogan "Discover bad taste" much more fit for such a "meal"), remains a mystery to me, especially when you compare this to the meal offered by OS on my return flight (graved salmon, tasty potato salad with deep-fried chicken and profiteroles, served on porcelain dishes with "real" metal cutlery).
Complaining to a friend who was at the time working for LH's catering company she told me that sometimes "meals that have not been approved for delivery may accidentally be served to passengers". While I'm not sure if that's really what happened, it adds to the negative experience I have always made with Lufthansa. How about the general quality of C meals on LH (compared to other european airlines)? And has something like this happened to anyone of you, too?
