Most people are employed at-will. The employment "contract" for most people is an agreement that you're at-will usually with a dash of arbitration. So for most people the rules come in the form of an employee handbook that a company may or may not follow.
Be that as it may, it sounds like they have union representation. As such, there would not be such a clause in the contract. In fact the pay scale would be a matter of public record as part of that contract.

I would also caution against using the block time hours as what someone really works. The FAs basically don't go on the clock until the parking break comes off and stops when it goes back on. Doing a bunch of short haul regional flights each day that's likely building up 45-60 minutes of unpaid time
per segment. More so if they are the lead having to fill out paperwork. They are likely much closer to a FTE than you give them credit for, plus they deal with constant travel without the perks most business travelers get.
Here's the only thing I don't get about the story. Was she laid-off or fired. I've seen it both ways. The stories may is seem like they are represented by the AFA, which mean they should have used a seniority list and she'd be on the recall list as well. Fired means the terminated with cause.
