I cannot sleep on planes, so I do find myself talking on just about all flights. Just because it is a red eye does not mean that everyone is required to sleep.
Very true, but the onus is also on the person who wants to talk, to keep a reasonable and respectful tone of voice/volume, given the late hour. I would expect this on a plane, train, hotel lobby, anywhere. It's midnight. Indoor voices please
If someone is not respecting that, it's perfectly OK to politely ask them to lower their voices.
