I just had a death in the family and we had to book last minute plane tickets. I am also trying to get back in time for my sister's bridal shower that I am hosting. Unfortunately, my husband didn't remember this and now my flight wont be arriving in time. I am trying to get an earlier flight on the same day, but the airline I am flying only has one earlier flight that would still be cutting it close. I have checked another carrier and found a one way flight returning for $121 that gets in at an earlier time. I'm thinking it may be cheaper to buy this new ticket than pay for the fees to change my current.

My questions is, can I miss my returning flight on purpose without being charged a penalty? (I wouldn't even check in this ticket)

(I already understand I would not be refunded the cost of the returning flight)
