According to some of the comments below the article, they say that the airport does not have a separate area for private aircraft departures, and thus passengers for private aircraft and commercial airlines are both in the same secure area. If that's the case, then it makes perfect sense that he is subject to the same security requirements as an "ordinary" passenger on a commercial flight.

I have no personal knowledge of the security layout there, just going by what some of the comments said.
