Aeroplan awards are one of the most flexible...on the way home, you could route yourself through Europe for an extra stopover, or just to try another *A airline. We refer to this as a mini RTW...a few threads on those too.

Got lots to learn still about this. I'm not really a frequent flyer but i've accumilated enough points for our 5 yr anniversary vacation.
