Thanks for all of the replies. I thought it was a long shot as I'm only a small fish (silver elite) rather than a platinum elite. Thank you also for the info re: UA - maybe I should move to them. However, UA doesn't fly to MNL, although when I go to their site they seem to allow me to book travel on other airlines (non-*alliance airlines) - weird.
