If you have 50K miles with NW and you are silver elite, will AAdvantage allow you to switch the miles to them and give you the AAdvantage level equivalent to WP's silver elite?

Also, how easy is it to upgrade on AA int'l flights? On NW you have to have M fare or higher (ex China & HK). This means you are paying about double a discount coach ticket and giving up 50K miles too. Is it similar with AAdvantage?
