I asked them to look up the *A rules on their computer system. They refused to and kept repeating must be *G. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and all of a sudden their english disappeared. Rather than make a scene I left but looking at the Star Alliance website I believed that I qualified for entry:

http://www.staralliance.com/en/benef...access-policy/

Paid Lounge Membership Customers:
Eligible Paid Lounge Membership Customers have access to any Star Alliance member carriers' owned Business Class lounges.

• Eligible Paid Lounge Membership Customers include United Airlines Red Carpet Club, US Airways Club, Air Canada Maple Leaf Club – Worldwide and Continental Airlines Presidents Club.
• Customer must present a valid eligible paid lounge membership card
• Customer must also present a boarding card for a same day Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport.
• Customer is entitled to one guest

I sent an email to the Star Alliance website asking for clarification, but have not received an answer yet.

Am I crazy or just missing something??

Unfortunately, the lounge agents are correct. If you use the Star Alliance Lounge Finder (http://www.staralliance.com/loungeFi...residents+Club) with your criteria, CO*S and Continental Presidents Club paid membership, it does not list any lounges for you to use. Also note that the rules only mention access to UA RCCs, US Airways Clubs, AC Maple Leaf Clubs and CO PCs - not CA lounges.
