Another good option is to try different power up sequences. All of the following in various combinations have worked for me before:

1. With and without battery installed.
2. Plug in with power off then boot up vs. plug in while booted up.
3. Plug adapter in with out laptop connected and wait for the light on my brick to turn on, then plug brick into the laptop.
4. Various other combinations of where the "final connection" is: laptop, at the outlet, at the brick.
