On taxi "hold", pax in the aisles
Here's a new one I haven't seen or heard before. We're on an active taxiway at DFW yesterday when the pilot stops (BNA-DFW AA 439). I assume we're waiting for clearance to cross an active runway when the pilot comes on and informs us that "even though we did a good job getting you here early, the company can't seem to seem to get it together, and we'll have to wait here for a gate for twenty, that's 2-zero minutes". Amidst the groans from the cabin, the captain continues: "we are on an active taxiway and could be instructed to move at any time, so I have to ask you to remain in your seats with your seat belt fastened until we arrive at the gate".
A woman in 4F immediately gets up and goes to the lav right in front of the FA in the jump seat. She comes out and another from 4E goes in. At this point, the FA makes an announcement: "ladies and gentlemen, if you choose to get up, we cannot be responsible if you are injured should the captain have to move the aircraft quickly". She neither got out of her seat to reprimand the naughty pax nor seemed very concerned about the whole thing other than to make that announcement.
Hey, no big deal, but I thoght it was interesting that a) the captain seemed to slam AA ground staff over the intercom and that b) the FA didn't do anything about the passengers getting up during a taxi hold.
