Complimentary upgrades are eligible on any non-BF route, regardless of equipment. NRT-GUM, although it uses BF equipment isn't marketed as a BF route, so it's eligible for upgrades. GUM-HNL non-stop is BF, so no upgrades, but on the way back there's a one-stop HNL-GUM which isn't BF. It is possible to get all the way across the pacific on non-BF flights.
