On AA... shouldn't be a problem using your 22 inch bag (As others have said, especially if in J or F). Sadly, IME.... same does not hold true for other European carriers (e.g. BA, Aer Lingus, Iberia, etc.). Typically, size and weight requirements are more stringent, and are stricly enforced. YMMV.
