If you're going to shell out this type of money effectively for the sole purpose of flying, why not B-up the whole way by flying via LAX and then onto GUM either via the one-stop through MAJ or the Island Hopper?

3/5 upgraded flights is kind of hollow when the sum total of the upgraded segments is a little over 3,000 miles up front and more than 14,000 miles in the back.

And, if you're not really in need of visiting GUM or vacationing there, wouldn't it be a lot less taxing on the body to just do four transatlantics spread out over the year for about the same coin?
