Gotta help a fellow Sunnyvaler -

First, congratulations on your upcoming marriage! For the flight, near as I can tell you have 4 options:

1)Fly AA F as far as you can (MAD? or LHR), then IB (or BA from LHR) to BCN. This is probably the easiest to work.

2)Fly AA to an IB gateway, then IB to BCN. The downside is that IB has generally received very poor comments on FT, although first class may be better.

3)Fly BA SFO-LHR-BCN. This puts you on arguably the best trans-Atlantic F carrier, but . . . you'd need to launder AA miles to a BA Executive Club account, then redeem. Generally this involves going through Diner's Club during the (hoped for) 1:1 DC:BA transfer, which may (or may not) start on June 1. A year ago, this would have been the best option, however, with the EC changes planned for July 1 (raising the number of miles needed per ticket from 100k to 180k; how's that for an "enhancement"?) I don't see how you could get the miles AA->DC->BA in time to redeem the awards.

4)You could fly Swiss to ZRH, then connect to BCN. Out of your way, yes, but LX is supposed to have a first class first class product. SJC-LAX/ORD/BOS-ZRH-BCN, 125k AA miles.

5.AY, EI don't have first class cabins.
