Hi hfly, I have been very critical of AF in many cases, especially in terms of service, seats, F product, upgrades and the like. But I would disagree with you on a couple of points.
Regarding J amenity kits you should compare with what other airlines are currently offering in J. They all have downgraded their offering in the past couple of years in correlation with lower premium traffic and pricing. That also applies to the best airlines like CX and SQ. SQ does not even have amenity kits in J.
yes the AF pouch has been around for a while, but I find it quite nice so why change. Yes some infrequent pax do not realize there is one because it is put in some hidden place in the seat. Yes they have been problems recently on AF with limited kits available, hopefully that will not last. Yes other airlines cater to their national tastes (e.g. mouthwash on US airlines or toothpicks on some Asina airlines). But one item that has disapeared on most airlines is the perfume or cologne bottle. Overall, I find AF J kit to be quite to the international norm.
I find their headsets and audio quality to be top. I cannot cite an airline with better headsets/quality. Same ones are used in F. I agree with you that having fixed headsets can create problems when pax pull the wiring too hard. On the other hand, quality movable headsets are prone to theft. I had more problems with the whole AF avod system than with headsets. But the new avod system, now found on most planes, is quite reliable as opposed to the old one.
Food on AF J has improved and is now great. Yes, it could be served better, but I cannot think of an airline offering markedly better food in J (and most are below). IMO it is on par with CX or SQ which I use frequently. I would not say the same for AF F food which is quite similar to the J food.
For wines, I have to agree with you, even in F: AF wines in J are of the lowest quality (cost).
