I think you are being a bit tough here. Bear in mind that AF works as a mix of 'in pouch' and 'on demand' (or sometimes in bathrooms) amenities. So in addition to the contents, products include Clarins toner, make-up removal for ladies (clarins also), cotton balls, hair brushes on demand, and if I remember (although I always use my own) shaving kits on demand. One might like the mix of automatic/on demand or not, but I personally don't mind at all and it is undoubtedly 'greener' than randomly pre-packaging things people might not use. In fact, one of my favourite amenities are from KE and that doesn't include any 'in pocket' item at all apart from shoe bags and slippers.

AF is also one of the only airlines I know on TATL routes to give you full toiletry kits in lounge shower before departure and on arrival. The products you get (and even number of towels!) beat hands down the likes of BA, LH, LX, etc and every single US airline by a million years. So basically, it is a question of choice of what you invest in and what you don't. As far as that goes, this is one of the few areas where I personally would say that AF does not have a competitive disadvantage at all.

As for headphones, they present in my mind an average picture. When they work, they are pretty good, better than many other airlines (some don't even offer noise cancelling as yet) but as often with all AF wiring, they are unreliable meaning that they break down more often than the norm. I think their engineers must be very bad. This being said, I very much like TATL flights with DL but have had faulty sound systems there more often than with AF.
