The uppa baby vista is a great beach stroller. I have checked ours many times- usually by gate check. It was recently DESTROYED when I checked it in with the regular baggage instead of at the gate.
We have also traveled with a quinny zap. This stroller can be brought on board as it is so small, but it does not recline- so I wouldn't recommend it for any age child.
I just purchased a Maclaren Quest because it does recline to use for travel. Homegoods stores have these in stock for $149 which is a great price. They also have the XLR stroller for $179 which is a GREAT stroller for the beach (large wheels and huge sunshade) and has full recline. I went back and forth on which one to get myself (I actually purchased both while I decided, lest Homegoods run out), but chose the Quest in the end because it has a more compact fold. We have been doing a lot of city vacations lately and I just couldn't see myself lugging the XLR up and down flight after flight of stairs in a Tokyo subway station. However, my daughter is 3. If I had a little one I think I would have chosen the XLR.
Good luck!
