Quick question about Macau. I have read numerous posts on this forum recommending against going to Macau on the weekend. We are arriving on Thu, 11/26 and leaving on Sat, 12/4. Ideally, I wanted to make Macau the initial part of the trip and spend 2 nights, so this put us Thu through Sat there. My question is, will we have huge crouds there trying to get back to HK? Or should we go in the middle of the week? Are 2 nights/3 days too much?
Spending two nights is okay, if you go late on Day 1 and come back early on Day 3. But ferries are more crowded - you may not be able to get the exact sailing you want, and standby lines will be long or impossible if you want to take an earlier ferry, and so on. And some of the tourist sites may be very crowded.
More importantly, hotel rates are much higher on weekends than weekdays, so you won't be saving much (or any), comparing to staying in HK, where hotel rates are usually similar throughout the week.
