The opposite way round is a far more common problem with BA. You may well have been pushed towards Fast Track at LHR as an Economy passenger, but I can assure you there were plenty of premium pax there too - probably hundreds. I arrived right behind you.
But curiously, last time I was an JFK, there was an absurdly long queue for CW bag drop/check-in. I complained to a customer service agent who sat behind a table conveniently located next to my spot in the queue. She was very unsympathetic and didn't seem to understand "well it's very busy sir" isn't really an adequate excuse for a long queue at the Club desks. But somebody could see it wasn't satisfactory and then two minutes later they directed half of us round the corner to the empty F desks. An F/Gold arriving at that time might even have been slightly peeved, but it was enough to get all the queues down to a more manageable (I guess three or four people each) level.
When the BA desks are all lined up together, as at most outstations, it's quite common for the F/Club agents to call people over
one at a time from the lesser queues. That way if a genuine F or CW person arrives, they will have to wait behind at most one imposter. The problem is when you have quite separate areas I guess this becomes a bit tricky to manage.
To continue the story,
Agent: You can do whatever you want sir.
Sounds remarkably lovely and cooperative to me. What are you complaining about?
