The Hilton St. Charles was originally built in 1926 as a Masonic Temple. I stayed there about 6 months ago and found it OK with some of the quirks of an old converted building (strange window layout, odd nooks in the floorplan etc.). I know from personal experience that it is not immune to noise from rowdy guests. It is a great location if the CBD is your destination, but the Riverside is a better location for a tourist (and much nicer views!).
