I'm going FAI-DCA on thursday/friday and found out that, despite being gold for a month and having proactively asked an agent at the gold desk in Aug, after making MVPG, to ensure that I was on the appropriate waitlist for my 3 previously purchased reservations, I was still on the MVP UG waitlist.

I checked my reservation today to see which upgrades went through at -72 and none had, despite U being available on some. I called the gold desk and got manually upgraded on those segments. Despite showing up as Gold in the system, agent indicated I was still on the MVP UG list.

If you booked travel prior to achieving a higher status level, you may want to confirm that the system not only recognizes you as such, but that your new status is reflected in the UG waitlist. The system seems to recognize your status automatically, but doesn't appear to touch the waitlist.

Too bad for me in this case, I'll be a month behind in the MVPG waitlist now. Sux too, to get misinformation from the agent I'd asked in Aug about being on the appropriate UG waitlist. I imagine that agent only saw that my status was in the system, rather than checking the individual waitlists for my reservations.

I don't know if this is viewed as a bug by AS or they are simply cautious not to touch the waitlist and accidentally change something when viewing a reservation. It seems someone whose status were expiring could exploit this phenomenon by purchasing tix before the end of the year for the following one- perhaps they'd get upgraded because the UG list wouldn't get altered when their status expired? Hopefully this will get smoothed out for new MVP/Gs' sake.
