Kathmandu – Delhi on Jet Airways Business Class
I am writing this Trip Report mainly because it involves a less common destination; one which I found quite interesting during my many travels. I had not planned on writing a Trip Report and so do not have a lot of pictures I can use.
This flight was part of a longer trip we had in April of 2009 involving the following flights:
TPA-DFW-ORD-DEL, JAI-UDR-DEL-KTM-DEL-BRU-JFK-TPA
The whole trip was amazing, India and Nepal are truly beautiful countries and I would definitely recommend a visit to anyone.
The flights to Delhi, via DFW and ORD were pretty uneventful; the highlight was First Class from DFW to ORD on a B777 and of course ORD to DEL on Business Class on a B777. I did manage to get a shot of my Flagship Suite on this flight.
The flights within India from Jaipur to Udaipur and back to Delhi were all on Jet Airways and I was surprised by how nice and new all their aircraft seemed. Bottled flavored water (lime I think) was served on these flights.
India also has some amazing hotels such as the Amarvilas in Agra, the Taj Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, and the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur.
I thought the most interesting flight of this trip was our Kathmandu to Delhi flight on Jet Airways Business Class.
Check in at the airport was a bit confusing; there are very few signs in English. I thought it was comical that generic Nepal Airlines boarding passes are used for all flights departing KTM. Our agent took the generic economy class boarding pass and simply crossed out the word “Economy” and hand wrote “Business” with a pen!
We had to go through immigration on the way out of Nepal and there are several signs warning you about taking Nepalese currency outside of the country.
The airport is very small; with a mostly concrete and red-brick construction on the inside and outside; I believe this reflects traditional Nepalese architecture such as what we saw around Kathmandu.
There are only one or two stores and a coffee shop at the airport. There seemed to be unoccupied space for other stores but these were empty.
We made our way to the business class lounge, which was very basic and smelled of smoke. There was a limited selection of food and drinks, but it was better than waiting in the crowded gate area.
The seats on these regional Business Class flights were more than adequate; and reminded me of AA's older business class seats but without as much legroom.
As we taxied on the runway I was able to get a shot o our hotel, the Hyatt off in the distance.
Kathmandu is located in a valley which is usually covered in smog so we couldn’t see much for the first part of our ascent. However, once we were above the clouds/smog, I was able to catch some pretty cool pictures of the Himalaya mountains off in the distance.
Back in Delhi we spent the afternoon in a day room at the Taj Palace before our mid-night departure on Jet Airways to Brussels.
Because of the departure time, I fell asleep as soon as we boarded the plane in Delhi and did not wake up until we were getting ready to land in Brussels.
We used the Business Class lounge provided for use by AA to refresh and have some breakfast before our departure for JFK on a AA B767.
On this flight we all had beef for lunch as we hadn’t had any in the couple of weeks we had been traveling the Indian sub-continent.
I wish I had more pictures of these flights, and will make sure I do so for future Trip Reports. Thanks for reading!
