One of the things I've been noticing that seems to cause delays is having to gate check baggage. Happened to me today both in MIA and DFW and several other times in the past couple of months. Last ten people or so getting on board and there is no more overhead bin space and the crew has to spend an extra 15 minutes checking baggage.
