This problem has existed for as long as I can remember. You have to check-in for your AA flight at the airport. And even if you go to the AA Web site, it won't let you check-in as you have international segments.

BUT, you can check-in for (and select seats for, etc.) your BA flights as normal 24 hours before the first BA flight departs.
