Indeed.

My upgrade rate on CO last year was 50% as Plat (would have been about 27% if I didn't game the SDC system to switch to flights with good upgrade potential). However most travellers do not have that type of flexibility. The previous year, my CO upgrade rate was 33% as Plat. And that was before this upgrade funny-business.

By comparison, my UA 1K UDU rate is 90%, and my DL PM upgrade rate is 85%.

It's going to be an interesting transition indeed. The big winner from this merger could possibly be AA if AA is willing to relax some of their status match policies to win over some UA flyers disgruntled with changes.
