They could have invented a 319A model to handle the unmodified planes but that raises other issues.

Robert Leach is correct in saying they have different seat maps for the same model with the 757 (there are currently 8 different 752 configurations, and 1 753 configuration). However, as I mentioned, the 752 configurations have different designations, whereas there is only one 319 designation. I'm guessing that's where the hold up is.
