If you travel next summer, wait until the summer sales start next year. Your $ 4000 fare should become $ 2000, if you book around Easter 2011, around $ 1200+, if you are willing to fly from the US East coast to Europe, plus a sep. ticket to Southern Italy.

For LAX-Europe, it is certainly Air New Zealand all the way, beats AF und KL easily, it is not even close, actually NZ C is comparable to AF F...
