That doesn't surprise me. As Platinum, I am regularly upgraded 6+ days in advance. I suspect that DL revenue management knows which routes will/will not sell F seats so they can pretty much process these at any time. It's a great policy and prompted me to shift more of my travel to DL from AA, who seem to be going in the opposite direction, delaying upgrades by wishing and hoping they can sell the F cabin.
