The solution which everyone does for the screen is to put a layer of bubble wrap over the glass and then a rigid board across the entire front of the monitor, then pack it with clothes or whatever. Hundreds of people do this everyday, I've personally done it with monitors up to 50 inches, and no (knock on wood) have never had a problem.
OK! Wrap the box with packing tape, remove the tape, repeat once or twice. Result: looks like a box someone has used several times to ship stuff in. Make some shipping labels to various places, put them on the box, cover with tape, remove said tape, etc. People use cardboard boxes of all kinds as luggage constantly. Crap it up a bit. But I really like your idea, particularly the rigid board across the entire front of the monitor.
