The idea of using the original box is far from asinine - in fact its an excellent means of shipping worldwide. However, hfly's knowledge of Turkish customs does lead to a dilemma. Maybe its solvable? Perhaps a means of avoiding the 'asinine' situation is to camouflage or otherwise disguise the original box so that it no longer looks like a newly purchased item? Should be easy to do.
The nice thing about the boxes is that they center the monitor right in the middle with plenty of room on every side for intrusions or compressions without risking the glass. I had the glass in a framed art object break due to compression, after it was quite snuggly packed amid clothes and other compressible objects.
