Back in the 1970's, you would see wide-body aircraft flying say FLL-MIA
on EA and DL, usually for aircraft positioning or route consolidation. Also, LAX-SAN, today your lucky to even find a RJ on that route let alone a larger aircraft.
I have seen a 757-300 on CO flying IAH-SAT and AUS. On AA, I see
757's flying MC0-MIA. I have seen on US Airbus flying PHL-LGA.
I am looking for on the current schecule for largest aircraft scheduled to fly over the shortest route.
KLM flies the 74 mile Aruba-Curacao hop with a 747. It's a tag on from the much longer haul from AMS though.
I was also able to find CCJ-COK (Kozhikode, India-Kochi, India) flown by Air India on a 747 as well. This is also 74 miles.
