In some cases, VIP's and celebrities pay the extra to fly in a premium cabin for no other reason than to ensure this exclusivity.

I personally pay (out of my own pocket) to fly in cabins above WHY, because I like the privacy and lack of movement in the cabin.

If it was to become a free for all for people to swap seats with friends in WHY as and when they please, then I would stop paying for premium cabins.

In short, it is either allowed, or it isn't. If it is allowed, then it undermines the product for those who have paid for the higher cabin. If it isn't allowerd, then it shouldn't be happening at all.

Points taken.

TBH it would not bother me if there was a policy disallowing the practice. I tend to prefer things in black and white, and could not ever see myself asking to swap to a higher cabin.

But my point re the OP stands - if the 'swap' is not disruptive to me, does not disadvantage me, and the CC allow it for whatever reason then I can't see why I would worry about it, or what business of mine it would be. I still have my seat and there is the same number of pax in the cabin. In fact if I wasn't told, and did not ask, then I would have no idea why a different person was occupying the seat. I'd likely not even notice that a swap had occurred at all if the seat is 'away' from me.

Anyway, I think I've set a PB for 'arguing' a point on FT (I usually don't, not beyond maybe one post) so on that note I'll withdraw and leave us all with our (healthily) differing points of view.
