What to do when you've already changed rooms and still have issues
We're currently staying at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. This is one of the noisiest Hilton's I've ever stayed in; it's right around the corner from the French Quarter so I don't expect the sea of tranquility, but I also don't expect to be able to hear people discussing dinner plans at normal conversational tones in the hallway.
We arrived Saturday midday and overnight we discovered there was a very unhappy baby staying 1 or 2 doors down from us (sound travels weird in here). The baby screamed nonstop overnight Saturday, and on and off (mostly on) on Sunday. Combined with someone (not sure if it was hotel staff or another guest) knocking on our door when our DND was up and we were trying to nap, I felt like screaming too. We asked to change rooms and after some confusion (including being given a door with a broken lock so we needed Security to let us in) we were given a room one floor higher. The new room let us keep our river view but is significantly smaller than the earlier room. Bathroom is almost claustrophobic. Both rooms have had nice, comfortable furnishings and are immaculate, but the old room was definitely more spacious and comfortable. We spent the evening out and went to bed, only to be woken up around 1:30 AM by our new neighbors, this time it was screaming drunks instead of screaming babies. We did not call security because (fortunately) the drunks knocked it off after about 10 minutes of play-time and we'd just barely figured out what room the noise was coming from at that point (didn't want to send Security to the wrong room).
I don't think there is a room in this hotel that won't have these levels of hallway noise which is unfortunate. Right now I can hear Housekeeping making a racket with the carts; yesterday I could hear the mop hitting the wall of the bathroom next door.
At this point, I'm not sure if it's worth it to complain again; I'm sure they could move us yet again but not confident it would be any better in another room. I'm a little bitter about giving up the bigger, nicer room and not getting a better night's sleep from it, but the bigger room was an upgrade and not something we paid for. We go home tomorrow so part of me thinks to just deal with it for one more day, while part of me is just annoyed over every bump, thump and shreik.
Am I being whiny, or do you think it's worth complaining again?
