Unfortunately you are mistaken about the event and upgrading. CES is one of the largest (if not the largest) convention Las Vegas gets and that involves a lot of paid premium cabin travel. I find that most premium cabins on most flights in/out of Vegas on just about any other airline, end up booked in advance.
