I feel uniquely, if temporarily, qualified to opine here as I am in Phoenix and have on rental a car with a base rate for 2 days under $80 but a total rental cost of over $120. And while I doubt I will ever set foot in that stadium, I am paying more than $3 toward the cost to build it.

My take is that they've got us. That is, they estimated that the amount of added revenue from soaking the tourists is greater than the amount that evaporates in protest over the tax increases. And I think they were correct.
