Determining the Region Code of a DVD
I just received a new DVD set from Amazon (U.S.). I played parts of the DVDs in both my home player and my laptop before I noticed that the DVDs bear a Region Code 6 label (China/Hong Kong). I checked the box and it is also labeled Region 6.
However, the DVDs played perfectly in both machines. In addition, using Power DVD's Configuration option, the following is displayed (bolding mine):
Player Information:
Player Region Code: 1
Current Drive: E:
Title Region Code: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Display Information:
Video Mode: Interlaced
Display Mode: DirectShow
FourCC Code: IMC3
Surface Type: Hardware Video Accelerator (DxVA)
Video Attributes:
Video compression mode: MPEG-2
TV system: 525/60 (NTSC)
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Display Mode: Only Letterbox
Source picture resolution: 720x480 (525/60)
Frame Rate: 30.00
Source picture letterboxed: Not letterboxed
Bitrate: 5.49Mbps
Is it safe to assume that this is truly a Region 0 DVD set that was mis-labeled at the factory, or should I ask Amazon for an exchange? Thanks for your help!
