Maybe we can expand this thread to include a discussion of whose country, province or state gouges with the most taxes and some of the more insane things they have managed to tax.
My upcoming YOW-YYZ-YQT flight had a (discounted) base fare of $111.20, plus $17 for seat selection, and I paid $71.04 in taxes and the like. If you're really interested, you can view a breakdown
