After decades of travel I am amazed at the accelerating proliferation of new and increased taxes by foreign, federal, state and local governments on our airplane, hotel and car travel. Particularly irritating are state and local governments who gouge out of state travelers way beyond their local sales tax because they are not local constituents. While I felt for many years that this was just irritating these taxes are becoming a significantly higher percentage of my overall bills. As long as there is no resistance to these taxes by the travel community I fully expect these taxes will continue to escalate.
