Almost every RI stay I have is with my family. (We like the extra room.) And I always make those reservations with the Plat line so I can ask the agent to call the hotel to see if they will provide a complementary 2 bedroom suite upgrade. Now the hotel may not always provide the free upgrade, but I've never had an agent tell me that s/he won't or can't call the hotel for me.
And note they have always called the hotel while I am still on the phone waiting.
