It looks like VMWare Tools (or Windows?) realizes the URL is local and opens Firefox inside the VM instead of Firefox outside the VM.

Does anyone have a workaround for this? I'd really like to not have to use Firefox inside the VM. It would be nice if the KVS tool opened the URL directly, instead of using a level of redirection.
Sounds like you need to make the Windows TEMP directory a Host/Guest Shared Folder & set-up an association for .HTM files, as described at http://Communities.VMWare.com/thread/166177
